The lottery for 2022 program for parents and grandparents (PGP) is now complete.

Canada’s PGP looks to help Canadian sponsors reunite with their loved ones, enabling those parents and grandparents to gain permanent resident status in Canada and enjoy associated benefits such as access to public health care and to have a possible path to citizenship in this country.

After completing their lottery between October 12 and October 20, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has confirmed on its website that it has completed the distribution of 23,100 invitations to apply for sponsors in the 2022 PGP pool.

In a similar format to 2021 PGPIRCC decided not to allow another round of interest to sponsor grants this year. Instead, the decision was made to issue ITAs for the 2022 PGP to more of the interested Canadian sponsors who submitted an expression of interest via IRCC’s website in the fall 2020.

All interested sponsors who received an invitation during the last PGP season will want to confirm their program eligibility again before submitting the application. From the date an ITA is received, PGP sponsorship jumpers have until 24 December 2022 to submit a completed application.

PGP lottery invitations remain some of the most sought after ITAs in the entire Canadian immigration field. Sponsorship interest from Canadians who wish to bring their parents and grandparents to Canada currently continues to far exceed the number of available application slots. In fact, considering the size of the sponsor pool within which IRCC distributed ITAs this year, IRCC revealed that it received over 200,000 interests in sponsoring forms in October/November 2020.

During the 2022 PGP cycle, however, Canada aims to continue to cut into that pool of the 155,000 interested remaining sponsors by receiving and processing 15,000 completed PGP applications from the 23,100 ITAs being awarded.
