Spotify CEO renews attack on Apple after Musk salvo

Spotify CEO Daniel Ek renewed his attack on Apple on Wednesday in a series of tweets saying the iPhone maker “gives itself every advantage while stifling innovation and hurting consumers.” .

On Monday, Elon Musk criticized the fee Apple charges software developers, including Twitter, for in-app purchases and posted a meme suggesting he was willing to “go to war” rather than pay the tax.

Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Wednesday. He said earlier this week that the commissions he receives help fund app reviews to ensure consumers aren’t exposed to fraud, pornography or privacy intrusions.

Spotify has previously filed antitrust complaints against Apple’s policies with the European Commission.

In addition to Musk, Ek also tagged various tech executives in his tweets, from Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney to Microsoft Chairman Brad Smith.

“So how much longer will we stop looking at this threat to the future of the Internet? How many more consumers will be denied choice?” Ek said in a tweet that he tagged the European Commission and the US Department of Commerce.

“There has been a lot of talk. Talk is helpful, but we need action,” Ek said.
